Withdrawal of the Person of Indian Origin (PIO) Card Scheme
The Government of India has decided that all PIO cards issued till 09 January, 2015 would be deemed to be OCI Cards. PIO Card Scheme has been withdrawn with effect from 09 January, 2015. Applicants for PIO cards, who have applied before 09 January 2015 and their applications are still pending, are requested to apply for the OCI card on the same fee prescribed for PIO card.
Henceforth, applicants may apply for OCI card only, as PIO card scheme is no longer in existence.
In case the PIO card holder acquires a new passport, then he/she can travel to India on his/her new passport after getting the same endorsed on the PIO card. This can be done by applying for miscellaneous PIO service at the Consulate General.
