Azar A. H. Khan

Consul General of India - Istanbul


Mr. Khan, a career diplomat, assumed his responsibilities as the Consul General of India, Istanbul in August 2016. 


Prior to this he was Ambassador of India to Libya & High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Malta from June 2014 - July 2016. He served in different capacities in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi and India’s Missions abroad in Brunei, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Egypt, Libya and Malta. He was Charge de’ Affaires in Ukraine, Brunei and Saudi Arabia.  Ambassador Khan has handled matters pertaining to countries of West Asia & North Africa, Gulf and Middle East, Mediterranean Forum, Arab Maghreb Union and ASEAN Regional Forum.  His assignments include the setting up of an Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)’s Telemetry, Tracking and Command Centre in Brunei, Construction of Indian Embassy School Project in Jeddah, evacuation of the Indian nationals from Libya in 2011, 2014 and 2015.  


Mr. Khan holds a post graduate degree from the University of Delhi. He speaks English, Arabic and has basic knowledge of German and Russian.
